Andhra Pradesh Government has decided to write to the Centre requesting it to set up a second major port and shipyard in the state. The decision was taken that the Centre was looking forward to set up another major port and shipyard in the country.
According to an official, the chief minister will request the shipping ministry to inspect a suitable land in the state for the proposed project and the state will hand over the required land. The second major port and shipyard would be in the best interest of the state since it has a 975-km long coast.
The state is also expected to introduce the AP Maritime Board Bill in the next Assembly session. The draft bill has already been approved by the state cabinet. It provides for appointment of port facility security officer at each operating port, responsible for the overall security of the port.
