Afcons Infrastructure has crossed several milestones by executing technically-challenging projects, which have gone on to become engineering marvels. In its journey from 1959, the infrastructure arm of Shapoorji Pallonji group has executed several projects notwithstanding the risks involved.
One such venture, which is currently underway, is the Agra Lucknow Expressway Project in Uttar Pradesh. Afcons is executing 126 km of the 301-km expressway, which on completion will be India’s longest access-controlled expressway. The company is working in EPC capacity on two packages – Firozabad to Etawah and Kannauj to Unnao – that comprise almost 42 per cent of the total length of this green field project. The varied structures that comprise this road project make it particularly challenging. Rail over bridges, eight flyovers, vehicular underpasses, pedestrian underpasses, major bridges and minor bridges are being built along stretches of virgin land as part of the expressway.
The 36-month project is slated to be completed way ahead of schedule – in 24 months. The six-lane expressway is expandable to eight lanes. Once ready, this expressway will reduce the travel time between the two cities from six hours to three-and-a-half hours.
