Hindalco Industries Chairman Kumar Mangalam Birla is on a growth spree.
Under his leadership, the company has become the world's No. 2 aluminium company after acquiring Aleris for a whopping $6 billion. Birla-led Hindalco expects to diversify its products and customer mix with the acquisition that will make it the second largest aluminum producer in the world by capacity. Besides, the acquisition will also give the company a presence in market segments that it wasn't present before, such as aerospace. As reported, Birla also believes that Aleris' technical capabilities in developing high-grade aluminum for sectors such as automobiles will also benefit Hindalco's Indian operations, considering that aluminum consumption in the Indian market is shifting from the traditional electrical segment towards newer applications in building, construction and transport. With this and more, Birla is definitely writing a new chapter in Hindalco's growth story.
