In a boost to the government's ambitious Smart Cities mission, Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu recently announced 30 more cities across the country to be developed as smart cities. Thiruvananthapuram, Naya Raipur, Rajkot, Amravati, Patna and Srinagar are a few of the 30 cities that have been selected under the third round. The total number of cities to be developed as smart now stands at 90.
Naidu made this announcement marking the second anniversary of his Smart Cities mission. The proposed investment in these 30 cities is Rs 57,393 crore in various projects under the Centre's scheme. With this, the total investment for smart infrastructure development for the 90 cities has gone up to Rs 1.91 lakh crore. What's more, Naidu's Urban Development Ministry also launched the City Liveability Index, an initiative to rank 116 cities across the country in terms of the quality of life they offer residents. Indeed, India's infrastructure is on an improvement spree!
