According to the latest report - Forest and Tree Resources - issued by the Forest Survey of India, forest cover in Ghaziabad, including Hapur district, has declined by 1 sq km as compared to the 2013 survey when the forest cover stood at 50 sq km. In comparison to a previous 2001 survey by the FSI, the city has lost around 67 sq km of the forest cover till 2015. Spread over an area of 2,590 sq km, Ghaziabad had a forest cover of nearly 116 sq km in 2001. This has now declined to approx 247 acre as per the latest FSI report. In percentage terms, the city witnessed a decline in the forest area from 4.48 per cent in 2001 to 1.89 per cent in 2015.
