Thomas Loeffler, CEO, bC Expo India Pvt Ltd
"The Indian market at the moment is very important with respect to growth potential,” says Thomas Loeffler, CEO, bC Expo India Pvt Ltd, in an interview with Jayanthi Narayan. Excerpts....
What is the theme of bc India? The theme is a new dimension for the construction industry, especially if we have a route to the Indian market. For example, we as the organisers of bc India want to provide new quality to the Indian exhibition market with this show. The parent shows of Bauma in Munich as well as Bauma China in Shanghai and Conexpo in the US are very high-quality events. We want to get our selections from Munich, China and the US shows to the Indian market.
What are the components of the event? We have four big sectors: All around Construction Sites, which comprises construction machines, lifting appliances and conveyors for construction equipment, formwork and scaffolding. This is the segment where we are very strong. Then we have Mining Extraction and Processing of Raw Material, where we expect many exhibitors who manufacture machines for extraction of raw materials, mining, handling and processing. The third section is Production of Building Materials like machines for producing concrete and concrete products, asphalt plants, batching plants and all other building materials. The fourth is Component and Service Suppliers. This includes all the suppliers who supply parts and spare parts to large equipment manufacturers.
How important is the Indian market for the global construction industry? The Indian market is very important with respect to growth potential. Together with the Chinese market, it counts as one of the highest potential markets worlwide as the markets in Europe and America are only just picking up again. If you see the five-year plans and the investments, the Indian government plans for infrastructure projects, you realise why so many international exhibitors and equipment manufacturers are eyeing the country. They want to be part of the growth momentum.
What is your vision for bc India? Our vision or target is to bring an exhibition on construction equipment to India that showcases a global variety of equipment so Indian builders, contractors and architects can compare equipment from all over the world. Quality is another aspect we want to provide our exhibitors and visitors.
What is your expectation from the event? Around 70 per cent of exhibitors have their headquarters abroad; we have nine international pavilions. Our target is 450 exhibitors, which we have achieved, over 80,000 sq m of exhibition space that we increased some months ago owing to high demand. We expect over 20,000 trade visitors from India and neighbouring countries.
How is bc India different from other fairs? Our show is more international. We provide a professionally prepared exhibition ground that we rented months ago. We have worked the ground with bulldozers and graders to prepare and level the ground. Mumbai is easily accessible from all parts of the world as well from all parts of India.
