The Indian Railways, eyeing a large scale expansion, has directed its production unit to prepare a roadmap with a target of having a three-fold increase in production by 2022. The news, as reported, is an outcome of the meeting of Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal with the general managers of all the railway zones. The minister has reportedly insisted on the need of improving the transport output thrice by 2022.
In a letter to the general manager of all production units of the railways, the focus was on increasing the production to match the growth expectations. An urgent evaluation of the performance of the manufacturing facilities is also demanded in this regard. There is significant increase expected in the production of Linke Hofmann Busch (LHB) coaches this year.
A sharp increase in the present annual coach production target of 2,435 to 5,000 coaches is expected. As per the reported directive sent to the production units, the production units have to prepare a realistic, workable and a flexible plan and thus embark on the journey of a three-fold increase with a clear strategy.
