As reported, in what comes as a historic landmark judgement, the Supreme Court ruled out its verdict in the Ayodhya land dispute in the favour of the Hindus – who have been granted the ownership of the 2.77 acre sought after land giving way for construction of the Ram Mandir. The construction of the temple is likely to be underway, following necessary legal clearances, by the Ram Janambhoomi Nyas who will build the structure with aid from the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP). Although the committee was previously handling the project, post the judgement it stands unclear if the same will persist. Reportedly, the construction will begin early next year with the onset of Makar Sankranti which is deemed to be an auspicious time to commence the project. The Supreme Court directed the government, who has received the ownership of the land, to set up a trust in three months time to initiate the process for the temple. The VHP, additionally, has demanded that the structure to be built must be based on the designs sketched out by the Ahmedabad based architect Chandrakant Sompura as per the body’s request. According to Sompura who has reportedly built around 100 temples, the construction of the entire temple will take somewhere between two-and-a-half to three years to complete. Reportedly, the structure is set to cost Rs 0.5 billion to Rs 0.6 billion – and will be built with 2.5-3 lakh cubic feet of pink sandstone which will be mined and transported from Rajasthan. It is the first public temple of an infant Ram and will allegedly have two storeys: Ram Lalla sanctum on the first floor and the Ram darbar on the second floor. As reported, the main features of the temple are: It will consist of a total of 212 pillars; with a height of 132 feet, the sanctum sanctorum will be 20 by 20 feet, where Ram Lalla’s idol will be installed; and it will incorporate the distinct characteristics of Hindu temples by including a chauki (verandah), nrityamandap (semi-covered porch), gudh mandap (covered porch) and the garbha gruha (sanctum sanctorum).  Following the Nagar style, the temple will possess the striking feature of incorporating an octagonal shape in its structure. It is also expected that by the time UP goes into polls in 2022, the Mandir will have made considerable progress and will be a huge benchmark for current Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath –the project has reportedly, been the primary objective of the Goraksh Peeth which he heads. Image: For representation purposes
