The work for commissioning the 800-MW supercritical coal-based expansion unit under Stage-VII of the Kothagudem Thermal Power Station (KTPS) has moved further with the success of the boiler light-up test.
TS GENCO took up the 800-MW thermal power plant as an expansion unit adjacent to the existing thermal power station at Paloncha in Bhadradri, Kothagudem district. Its boilers were reportedly of super critical technology. The Rs 5,500-crore project was granted environmental clearance on July 16, 2015, and began construction in August 2015. According to reports, the unit, which will be the twelfth in the thermal power complex, will be ready for synchronisation in March.
The Kothagudem Thermal Power Station has an installed capacity of 1,680 MW with 11 units in operation. As per reports, this is the first ever achievement of its kind after Telangana attained statehood.
