The proposal of the Ministry of Urban Development for continuation of 14 ongoing JNNURM projects in Delhi till 2014 was supported by the Delhi government.
Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) is one of the ambitious programme of the present union government to upgrade urban infrastructure.
These 14 ongoing projects include, among others, redevelopment of Connaught Place, state-of-art Signature Bridge, covering of drain from Press Enclave to Chirag Dilli, T-junction at GT Karnal Road and road no 56 near Apsara Border.
Recently, the Cabinet Committee on Infrastructure sought comments of the state government for the proposal of the union ministry.
The state government feels that it would be prudent to allow completion of the 14 projects which have been sanctioned after due diligence at all levels and works of which have been initiated in right earnest by the implementing agencies.
Earlier, the centre sanctioned 28 projects, but subsequently dropped five owing to various reasons. Out of 23 projects, nine projects have been completed and remaining 14 projects are yet to reach the completion stage. In fact, some projects even if pursued aggressively will take not less than 28 months for completion, it said.
