Cement demand spurs

With the end of the monsoon season demand for cement has surged with large cement makers clocking double-digit growth in despatches. The pent-up demand from infrastructure projects under execution and a pick-up in housing, post monsoon has helped demand to spurt and the industry expects the strong growth to continue until March.

India’s second-largest ce-ment maker, ACC has managed to sell 14 per cent more cement in October at 1.92 mn tonne while production for the month rose 16 per cent to 1.98 mn tonne. Ambuja Cements also reported 20 per cent growth in despatches with a 17 per cent rise in output. However, the Aditya Birla Group outpaced the formers with a 21 per cent growth in sales and 18 per cent increase in output for the month.
