KKR buys 21% stake in Dalmia Cement

Kohlberg Kravis Roberts (KKR), the US-based private equity will invest Rs 750 crore in the demerged cement entity of Dalmia Cement- Avnija. KKR will pick up a 15-20 per cent stake in this entity. Earlier in March, the Rs 2,000-crore Dalmia Cement had declared spinning off its cement, power and refractory businesses and list it on the stock exchanges by the end of the year. With the boost given by the government to infrastructure projects, road networks and housing facilities, growth in cement consumption has been anticipated. Cement is the main money spinner of Dalmia Cement with a 70 per cent share in revenue. It has a capacity of 9 mn tonne which makes it among the second largest player in the South.
