Over 80 percent small cement producers have closed their units in Gujarat owing to competition from major players and rising raw material prices.Unable to survive amidst competition from bigger players, 80 units have closed their plants in the past six months.Plants with capacity less than 2 mn tonne are classified under the mini cement plants category. As major players like Ambuja, UltraTech, Sanghi, Jaypee and Digvijay have their units in Gujarat, the total installed capacity in the state is well over 13 mn tonne.
