The organisation introduces a range of products that can be utilised across diverse industry segments like manufacturing, pharmaceutical, automobile, aviation, ports as well as engineering. Samir Gandhi, Managing Director, Gandhi Automations, expounds on the company's operations and future plans.

Since 1996, Gandhi Automations has been a leading name in the Indian automation industry. What are the latest products launched by the company?
We offer a range of products including dock levelers, dock shelters, sectional overhead doors, high speed doors, heavy industrial sliding doors, aircraft hangar doors, shipyard doors, tail lifts, automatic gates, rolling shutters etc. which are required in industrial as well as commercial sites.

Recently, we installed aircraft hangar doors at the Trivandrum airport; it is an automated fold up door and a novel concept in India. Apart from new products, our research and development team are constantly working on measures to increase safety and energy efficiency of products.

Which user groups are you targeting through this group?
Expansion and modernisation takes place at different levels in almost all the sectors in India. Since material handling equipment is basically used for movement, storage, protection of materials; it can be used in any industry. However, these are mostly used in companies which adhere to automated solutions for logistics.

How technically equipped are your manufacturing facilities? Elaborate on the latest technologies adopted?
Our manufacturing facility has a state-of-the-art infrastructure in Bhiwandi. The product engineering team utilises the latest design software and combines it with technologically advanced machinery in welding, grinding, shearing, forming and painting to offer the customer a well-engineered product. The rolling shutters, gates and doors that we manufacture have the latest concepts and technology incorporated in them.

What measures are adopted by the company to make its products eco-friendly?
Most of our products are designed to be energy efficient. We have products such as doors and rolling shutters that are insulated; they contribute to energy savings in a big way. The products that we manufacture use less power and are less polluting, they have the least amount of impact on the environment.

Also, explicate on the safety measures adopted by the company in its manufacturing process?
The company is certified for compliance to ISO 9001 - 2008 Quality Management System. This has lead to the implementation of continuous improvement in personnel training, production, inspection, equipment calibration, machinery maintenance, logistics and customer relations. At Gandhi Automations, we not only ensure that our manufacturing facility is a safe place to work in but also take care that our factory workers use safety equipments while installing products at the site.

Elucidate on your dealer network and supply chain management?
In India, we have a strong network of dealers and installers and are proud to say that we have the highest number of installations across India. At the moment, we have a centralised distribution centre in Bhiwandi. In the next two years, we plan to have distribution centres in each zone - North, East, West and South.

How advanced is the entrance automations market in India? What initiatives are further needed in the future?
The Indian industry has started giving importance to technology updates and industry norms. To address the need of user friendly operations, 'entrance automations' is the latest technology which offers comfort, swiftness and security which is a pre-requisite benchmark. The demand for automations is expected to soar in India in spite of massive augmentation in indigenous production. The manufacturing industry will require automation products to fill in gaps and meet the niche requirement.

What are your plans for the future?
The challenge for us is to reinforce our position in India of being the No 1 entrance automations and loading bay equipment company. To make our mark in the global market, we are planning to become an export-oriented company. Apart from catering to the growing Indian market, we would like to export our products to Africa, South America and Far-East. Presently, our export chunk is negligible - just two per cent of our total turnover. By 2018, 50 per cent of our turnover could be coming from exports.
