Century Golden Brick Awards 2011

Bengaluru’s largest owners of real estate host a unique contest for architecture students to design a Senior Citizens’ Centre Century Real Estate, in association with the BMS College of Engineering, recently announced the results of the Century Golden Brick Awards 2011 at a grand awards ceremony held at the college auditorium. The contest was designed to encourage creativity and innovation among Karnataka’s budding architects.

The event kicked off with a panel discussion on ‘Professional Practice in India: Challenges and Experiences’, with panellists Sanjay Mohe, Prem Chandavarkar, Arunjot Bhalla, and Itty Zachariah sharing vast pools of experience with the students and audience. A question-and-answer session ensued, giving the students a chance to join in the discussion. This was followed by the awards ceremony, where the winners of the contest were announced.

In addition to winning cash prizes worth Rs 70,000, the winners got the opportunity to work with international architecture firms on a live Century project. Students sent in their designs for a Senior Citizens’ Centre in North Bengaluru as per the brief given. The jury shortlisted five submissions and the teams were given a chance to display their projects and answer questions posed by the judges. After walking through the final project exhibits, the judges awarded Vinay TS from BMS College of Engineering the Best Design Award. He walked away with a cheque of Rs 50,000 and a beautiful Golden Brick trophy. The Promising Talent Award of Rs 20,000 was given to Akash Raju and Aakarsh Shamanur from RVCE, Bengaluru.

This is the first time a real-estate company has organised such an event for students; though it is in its very first year, the response has been astounding, with close to 100 teams registering from various colleges across the state. To add to the revelry, Century Real Estate organised a rock show for the students of Bengaluru. The show opened with various college bands and featured celebrity rock band Galeej Gurus.

“Century has always believed in thinking ahead, and we are thrilled to see such a good start to the Century Golden Brick Awards,” remarked P Dayananda Pai, Founder, Century Real Estate. “This was designed keeping in mind our students, who are the talent pool of the future. We are very excited at this chance to reach out to our student community and encourage young talent in the building industry. We look forward to increasing the scope and depth of our engagement with the next generation through this, and other activities in future.”
