Shaw Contract has received the LEED v4 Gold for Interior Design and Construction certification for its 343 sq m showroom in Bengaluru. A fully-owned brand of Shaw Industries, Shaw Contract is among the world’s largest carpet manufacturer and leading floor covering provider. Shaw Contract has received the LEED v4 Gold for Interior Design and Construction certification for its 343 sq m showroom in Bengaluru. Key focus areas Shaw Contract has followed a user-centric design approach. Designed as an open collaborative workspace with pockets of space conducive for people to connect with one another, the centre has been designed without walls. Different spaces were marked out by mixing and combining colourful carpet tiles selected from Shaw Contract’s wide collections. Shaw's carpets help in regulating temperature and keeping allergens out of the air. What’s more, the project has installed air purifiers and indoor plants to maintain air quality. The use of high-performance glass glazing contributed to thermal comfort in both winter and summer, through efficient insulation solar control, and by eliminating the cold areas around windows. Optimum light The experience centre meets high standards in sustainability by integrating more natural light through the effective use of glass panelling, minimising energy consumption and selecting furnishings that are eco-friendly. To receive optimum daylight, the project has made use of solar control glass for glazing areas. This allowed natural lighting while restricting the resultant heat from glazing. Glass façades with solar control glass are an energy-efficient way to reflect heat from the sun and keep interiors cooler and its ability to curtail excess heat while allowing optimum daylight and creating a larger sense of space. Efficient glazing system played a pivotal role. Energy savings The centre has made use of high quality technically-accepted motion sensor LED lights to minimise the use of energy. To achieve the quality standards, the project has made use of high quality, globally certified HVAC brands. For the air-conditioning ceiling, it has made use of cassettes as they offer the flexibility to keep wall and floor space free. Although centralised, it gives the freedom to control each unit of air-conditioner separately, so that energy consumption can be controlled. The spatial planning has been done keeping the occupancy, heat and light distribution in mind. The entire HVAC system has been designed to meet the flexibility required in this space. Eco-friendly materials The project has made use of environment-friendly and technically-certified products. The used in the experience centre are all cradle-to-cradle silver certified using Eco Solution Q nylon and EcoWorx backing. The project has made use of Haworth furniture fittings as they are known for their sustainability measures like usage of renewable energy in production, green transportation, etc. Shaw ensures its facilities worldwide and sites in use are managed for sustainability.
