The new R290 compressors by Emerson are more efficient than other chemical refrigerants.Emerson Climate Technologies (India) Ltd, a subsidiary of Emerson Climate Technologies, has developed a compressor which runs on the environmentally friendly R290 refrigerant at its Atit plant in Satara district, Maharashtra. R290 is a natural hydrocarbon refrigerant having zero ozone layer depletion potential (ODP) and low global warming potential (GWP), as defined by the Kyoto Protocol. In commercial refrigeration applications, these compressors prove to be more efficient than other chemical refrigerants. The company has developed three models of these compressors and will support environmental initiatives by some of the largest beverage manufacturers in India.A landmark achievementThe Atit plant achieved a significant milestone by building 1 million compressors within a period of one year – an unprecedented achievement in the industry. The company exports compressors to countries across Europe, the Middle East, Latin America and Asia. It has invested significantly on human resource and safety performance standards at the Atit plant. Our new hydrocarbon compressor is a reflection of Emerson Climate Technologies’ commitment to meet and exceed customer expectations,”Eco-friendly featuresFully committed to energy conversation, the Atit plant complies with the necessary environmental rules and regulations and is ISO 14001:2004 certified. It has an effective hazardous waste management system where domestic as well as industrial effluent is treated and used for gardening at the main plant and ancillary. It also has a wormiculture plant that uses canteen waste to generate over 100 kg of fertiliser for the gardens.In addition, the plant boasts of a biogas unit that is used for treating canteen waste for generating biogas, which is in turn used for cooking in the canteen. A rainwater harvesting system has also been incorporated with a capacity of 9 million litre.
