Sany to Miners' Rescue

The Sany SCC4000 crawler crane was the real hero in the rescue operations at Chile’s San Jose mine.

Sany crawler cranes were sent disassembled, to the mining site in Chile by six trucks, all ready for the ultimate rescue of 33 trapped miners. Families of the trapped miners who have waited two months were singing a song named ‘Come on miners’ madeup by the miners themselves, Chilean flag and photos of the Madonna in hand.

On 5 August, 2010, 33 miners were trapped in the 700-meter-depth of the San Jose Mine, Chuquicamata copper mine which is located in the Atacama Desert in northeast Chile. The SCC4000 crawler crane, which is manufactured by Sany Science & Technology Co.,Ltd, was chosen by the Chilean government to do the rescue job.

Hao Heng, service manager from Sany Chile Subsidiary, was the service engineer in charge of the hoisting work in the rescue operation. Hao Heng said, “The SCC4000 crawler crane which was carrying out the listing tasks is of a superior make and performance, and has attained a reputation as the No.1 crane in China. It has also won Golden Award at the Shanghai Fair of Science and Technology, and with its parts like electronic control, hydraulic system, etc, attained an advanced level in the world.”

The SCC4000 was chosen as a candidate among other international competitors for rescuing the miners by the Chilean government; this showed their trust in China’s heavy industry. Media from all over the world reported on the participation of the SCC4000 Sany crawler crane in the mine blast rescue in Chile.
