Jaiprakash Associates - India's Fastest Growing Construction Company 2013
This is one company that does not sound retreat come hell or high water. The flagship company of the Jaypee Group, Jaiprakash Associates is a leader in the construction of river valley and hydropower projects on a turnkey basis for more than four decades. Formed by the merger of Jaiprakash Industries and Jaypee Cement, the company has five divisions: cement, engineering and construction, energy, real estate and expressways, and hospitality. It was established in 1979 and has a presence across India in states like Jammu & Kashmir, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Assam, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Jharkhand, etc. Jaiprakash is currently executing various projects in hydropower, irrigation and other infrastructure fields and has the distinction of simultaneously executing 13 hydropower projects spread across six states and neighbouring Bhutan for generating 10,290 MW of power. Towards the end of 2012, the company entered into a JV with Madhya Pradesh State Mining Corporation for coal mining at Amelia. It recently sold its Gujarat cement plant to UltraTech for Rs 38 billion. This monetisation of assets will help the company to prune its debt by 15 per cent. The company's standalone revenue in 2012-2013 declined 5.5 per cent to Rs 8,606.25 crore while its net profit rose 3.1 per cent to Rs 2,307.6 crore from Rs 2,237.3 crore in the previous year.
