Government wants stricter norms to restrict Chinese power equipment

The government intends to introduce stricter efficiency norms that may make it difficult for the Chinese manufacturers to compete even for the private sector orders. The specifications prepared by the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) for the super-critical power generation equipment of 660 mw and above, have been forwarded to the law ministry. The law ministry will vet the specifications before enforcing them. The move will ensure that the equipment will have a lower heat rate which will lead to higher efficiencies and lower emissions. The Union Government has already asked all central and state power producers to make it mandatory for overseas suppliers to set up manufacturing facilities in the country.
