Sunil Desai, Managing Director, Dextra India, is a Civil Engineer with Post Graduate diploma in construction management from NICMAR and MBA. Also a member of IIBE and ICI and Bureau Of Indian Standards Committee (CED-S4), he has 30 years of experience in construction technologies like post tensioning, structural repairs, rehabilitations and mechanical splicing, etc.Desai has been involved in construction of landmark projects such as nuclear power projects, Bandra-Worli Sea Link Project and Delhi Metro Rail Corporation since phase-I for various construction methods and technical solutions. Desai has been instrumental in developing indigenous high capacity post tensioning system, metallic void former and HDPE duct for post tensioning in India and has also made possible the successful introduction of mechanical couplers or splice system in India. He is currently working on carbon fibre technology for repair of flyovers in Mumbai. Desai expects the sector to adopt new technologies with an open mind, which will save time, material and cost as well as produce world class concrete structures.
