Jaiprakash Associates has established its stronghold in the engineering and construction of hydropower projects in the country, with an enviable track record of strong project implementation in different capacities. Jaiprakash Gaur, promoter of the company, has led the company to unprecedented heights. Supplemented by its five star hotel projects, the future of this company looks bright, with its standalone profit after tax at Rs 1,026 crore in the year-ended March 2012.

Incorporated in 1995 and part of the Jaypee Goup, Jaiprakash Associates has a diversified presence across various infrastructure segments with a special focus on hydropower projects. In April 2002, Jaiprakash Industries was amalgamated with Jaypee Cement and in March 2004, Jaypee Cement was rechristened Jaiprakash Associates.

Over the years, Jaiprakash Associates has developed special expertise in heavy civil engineering construction, expressways, cement, real estate and hospitality. It is also engaged in the manufacture and marketing of cement and owns five star hotels at New Delhi, Mussoorie and Agra.

In March 2012, the company received two hydel power contracts worth Rs 913 crore from Mangdechhu Hydroelectric Project Authority, Bhutan for construction works pertaining to 720 MW project in Trongsa. The first contract worth Rs 597 crore is for diversion tunnel, dam, spillway and coffer dams, intake structure, intake tunnels, and allied packages. The other contract valued at Rs 316 crore, is for surge shaft, pressure shafts, bifurcation pressure shaft, underground powerhouse, transformer caverns and the like.

For the year-ended March 2012, the company posted standalone gross sales revenue of Rs 12,743 crore. Its standalone gross sales rose 28.5 per cent to Rs 12,965 crore in the year-ending March 2011 from Rs 10,089 crore in the previous year. The company's standalone profit after tax stood at Rs 1,026 crore in the year-ending March 2012.
