India is the right market for our construction machinery trade fairs

Preparing for a record event, bauma China 2010 over 220,000 sq m exhibition space, is set to welcome around 1,700 exhibitors from 30 countries. Eugen Egetenmeir, Member - Management Board, Messe München GmbH talks about the trade fair in Shanghai and also future prospects for bC India 2011.

What are your expectations from bauma 2010?
As the organiser of bauma in Munich, we have succeeded in transferring our concept for success into the growth markets. The first bauma China held in 2002 in Shanghai quickly established itself as the leading trade fair for China and Asia. Conversely, this benefited bauma in Munich, which witnessed an increase in the participation of Asian companies. Similarly, more Chinese companies than ever registered for bauma 2010 in April. bauma China caters specifically to China and Greater Asia. The trade fair is attracting great attention from international companies as they are focusing increasingly on these growth markets; but the exhibition is also of interest to the Chinese exhibitors. bauma China 2010 will be a platform for the exhibitors to meet their customers from China, who will also have access to the export markets of Asia.

With the entire exhibition area booked as early as Spring 2010, does the Shanghai venue still have growth potential for trade show in future?
Two new halls to be used for the exhibition are currently being built in the SNIEC by Messe München with German and Chinese partners. These new construction measures will very roughly accommodate the increase in demand for exhibition space in the Shanghai venue. Apart from being a successful exhibition centre in China, SNIC also has the highest capacity utilisation of any exhibition centre in the world.

Messe München alone organised seven successful events in the Chinese market since 2002. Of all the trade fairs, bauma China requires the most space. Four more halls will be built by 2011, completing the complex which will then have a total of 17 halls with 200,000 sq m exhibition area and an additional open-air exhibition area comprising an extra 120,000 sq m. With a total of 320,000 sq m, there is enough space available for bauma China to continue to grow.

What do you think of bC India which will be taking place in Mumbai for the first time in February 2011?
Medium-term forecasts from the economic institutes predict that India will be the third biggest economy in the world after China and the US. Messe München has made strategic decisions to organise our successful trade fairs in countries where there is an appropriate demand. This has inevitably led to the most successful construction machinery fair in the world in the booming economic market of India.

bC India, which will be held in Mumbai for the first time from February 8 to 11, 2011, will provide an ideal platform for international exchange in construction machinery, building material machines, mining machines, construction vehicles and construction equipment. The fair will be implemented as a joint venture with the Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM) from the US.

As early as February 2010, its exhibition space had to be increased by around 60 per cent to 80,000 sq m due to the rush of exhibitors, which shows that with India, we have tapped the right market for our construction machinery trade fairs.
