BMRCL, railway authority fail to reach consensus

The plan to provide inter-modal connectivity between metro rail and railway has been shelved in Bangalore following lack of consensus between BMRCL and the Bangalore division of the South Western Railway on the design and cost.

If they agreed on the design and cost, the platforms at the railway station would be connected with the Metro station. The railway authority planned to have a sky walk parallel to the platforms and connecting to the existing foot over bridge.

It would require the demolition and re-construction of five important offices located in railway land. The railway authority asked BMRCL to pay Rs 1.8 crore for shifting of the offices. Besides this, the bridge itself would cost about Rs 7-8 crore.

Simultaneously, the SWR suggested an alternate alignment that would cost lesser and was simpler. The alternate alignment was to have a bridge across all ten platforms of the station and would end at the extreme end of the Mysore platform.

Each platform would also have a landing. The alignment was estimated to cost about Rs 3-4 crore. The project has been in limbo for the last couple of months.
