Bangalore needs Rs 80,000 cr for infrastructure
The Karnataka government has estimated that it needs at least Rs 80,000 crore for Bangalore city needs such as for infrastructure, road development, drainage and several development activities. This was disclosed by the State Urban Development Secretary PN Srinivasachari. Srinivasachari was addressing a workshop on 'Cities of the future: Smart and Sustainable' in Bangalore recently. He said Bangalore's population has now touched 95 lakh. Hence the government should invest at least Rs 80,000 crore on infrastructure over the next five years. But the state government can spend not more than Rs 20,000 crore. Our annual state budget is about Rs 1 lakh crore and it's hard for any government to earmark so much funds by ignoring other regions and aspirations, he said.
