Cement exports to India decline

Media reports say that Pakistan's cement exports to India have drastically come down. Discussions regarding the most favoured nation (MFN) status to India began in 2010. However, in contradiction with moves to open up trade with India, Pakistan’s cement exports to India have since declined by 20.35 per cent.

However, demand for Pakistani cement in other regions witnessed a growth of 7.39 per cent, say cement industry in Pakistan. Pakistan cement industry has been highly anticipating the granting of the MFN status to India.

The industry expected to benefit and grow exports once the MFN status came into place. Data by All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association (APCMA) says that cement exports to India stood at 7,86,672 tonne in 2007-08, a number which witnessed steady decline to reach 722,968 tonne in 2009-10.
