Centre, state govt to allocate funds for Pune metro rail project

The central and the Maharashtra governments, which would contribute 20 percent each to the project cost of Pune Metro rail, would allocate the same in their forthcoming budgets.

In the budget for 2013-14, the central government would make provision for the Pune metro rail project, Union urban development Minister Kamal Nath promised recently.

Also recently, Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra Ajit Pawar said that the state’s budget for 2013-14 will have an allocation for the government’s contribution for the Pune metro rail project.

While 50 percent of the total cost would be raised through private players in the form of private-public-partnership, Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad municipal corporations would bear 10 percent expenditure on the project jointly.

In another development, the Pune Municipal Corporation decided to set up a special purpose vehicle (SPV) to implement the project in another few days. A special purpose vehicle on the lines of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, is to be formed to implement the project.

Earlier, the officials of the civic body reviewed the progress in the Pune metro rail project. Following the initiative taken by Union agriculture minister and the Nationalist Congress Party Chief Sharad Pawar to push the project and getting it approved from the Union urban development ministry, the project gained momentum.
