Centre upgrades 6 highways in AP to national highways

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy thanked the central government for upgrading six state highways in the state into national highways.

The six highways are Naidupeta-Renigunta; Sangareddy-Nanded-Akola; Mydukur-Gooty; Rayachoti-Kurabalakota; Hyderabad-Srisailam-Thokapalle and a stretch covering towns between Sironcha-Renigunta.

A statement released by the state government shows that this is for the first time that Andhra Pradesh managed to get 11 new national highway projects for development in one financial year.

It may be recalled that the centre had earlier upgraded five state roads into national highways. Thus, including the recent upgradation of the above six state highways, the centre upgraded road length of 1,817 km in Andhra Pradesh.

Following this, the density of national highways in Andhra Pradesh has risen from 1.72 km per 100 sq km to 2.38 km per 100 sq km.

These include a highway starting from junction with NH-59 near Asika connecting Rayadurg and going up to Motu in Orissa and terminating on NH-30 in AP, another project related to NH-40 connecting Badvel and terminating at Krishnapatnam, along with other projects.

With this, Andhra Pradesh will have 28 national highway projects spanning a total length of 6,547 km, including 17 national highways which are completed and which cover a stretch of 4,730 km.
