DMRC clears DPR for monorail project

Reports suggest that the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has reviewed and approved the Detailed Project Report for the first monorail corridor from Shastri Park Metro Station to Trilokpuri in Delhi.

DMRC would implement the 11-km corridor in east Delhi and this would be integrated with three different lines of the existing Metro network.

The Rs 2,235 crore corridor, which is expected to be completed by 2017, will have 12 stations and work on the project would start in the next couple of months.

The main intention of the Delhi government behind implementing monorail project is to take public transport to door steps of people in congested colonies where mass raipd transport like Metro cannot be constructed.

Taking a round of the route-alignment of the corridor, Transport Minister Ramakant Goswami Goswami said the corridor would cater to around 1.5 lakh passengers a day initially.

The corridor will have three inter-change points at Shastri Park, Nirman Vihar and Trilokpuri thereby providing connectivity with the existing Dilshad Garden-Rithala line, Anand Vihar-Dwarka and the proposed Mukundpur-Yamuna Vihar under Phase-III of Metro.
