DMRC to set up longest overbridges
In order to provide easy movement to commuters within the paid area of the Metro station, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) plans to set up the longest foot overbridges in the third phase of the Metro project.
Delhi Metro will construct these overbridges and ramps at six of the seven interchange stations on line 7 of phase III. Line 7 is the Mukundpur to Shiv Vihar corridor which is 55.6 km long.
DMRC would set up the foot overbridges ranging from 70 m to 200 m long. Interestingly, many of the stations on this line which are getting interconnected through the overbridge and ramps are elevated and underground stations.
The interchange stations are Azadpur, Netaji Subhas Place, Rajouri Garden, Mayur Vihar I, Karkarduma, Anand Vihar and Welcome.
Connectivity is not required at Anand Vihar as the new station will be adjacent to the operational one. Lifts and escalators will be provided and connectivity will be from concourse to concourse.
Constraints like inadequate land availability near existing stations and alignment makes it very difficult to connect new stations with the operational ones. Therefore, the corporation decided to construct the overbridges and ramps.
