GHMC to provide grade separators

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) will carry out the project of providing grade separators on the metro rail corridor II for smooth flow of traffic.

The civic body plan to rope in a consultant for studying feasibility of grade separators which could either be a flyover or an underpass to cross the road.

The civic body would take into consideration traffic volume at each and every intersection before providing grade separators.

The consultant would identify locations for providing them on the metro rail corridor II (JBS-Falaknuma). It is learnt that the civic body may provide almost 200 grade separators on the 71-km metro rail corridors__Miyapur-LB Nagar (corridor I), JBS-Falaknuma (II) and Nagole-Shilparamam for smooth flow of traffic and most of them might be required on the corridor II.

For instance, a grade separator would be required at RTC Crossroads as traffic congestion might be manifold after completion of the metro rail work.

National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) was given the mandate to identify grade separators along with detailed project reports on the corridor I as most of the stretch falls on the National Highway.

The corridor III might be taken up either by the GHMC or the roads and buildings (R&B) department.
