Ghogha-Dahej ferry in Gujarat inaugurated

Essar projects has completed construction and design of their roll-on-roll-off terminals at Ghogha and Dahej ports. These ports were both components of its Rs 225-crore contract received from the Gujarat Government.

Phase-I of its roll-on-roll-off ferry between Ghogha and Dahej in Gujarat was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Gujarat Maritime Board (GMB) had executed the project, which is expected to bring down travel time from seven hours to 2.5 hours between the two ports.

The newly inaugurated ferry service has a capacity of 500 passengers and around 150 vehicles per trip over the 30 km crossing the Gulf of Cambay. Once the ferry services begin, it will do four round trips each day, as per reports.

On completion of the project, Essar Projects’ subsidiary EPC Constructions India believes that the roll-on-roll-off ferry services is the first truly world-class ferry service in the South Asian region and can withstand extreme weather conditions.
