Union government, together with the Delhi, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh government would set up the NCR Transport Corporation to implement regional rapid transit system (RRTS) projects.

NCR stands for National Capital Region. RRTS include setting up of three corridors -Delhi-Panipat (111 km), Delhi-Alwar (180 km), Delhi-Meerut (90 km). The corporation would begin work on these three corridors soon and would complete it by 2016.

This information was given at the 33rd NCR Planning Board Meeting in New Delhi. Union minister of urban development Kamal Nath, minister for housing and urban poverty alleviation Girija Vyas, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and Haryana CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda addressed the media during the event.

Hooda at the meeting said that the Haryana sub-region had fulfilled the objectives of the creation of NCR by effectively checking migration to Delhi as also by attracting reverse migration.

In the last decade, Gurgaon city expanded at a rate of 293 percent, registering the highest growth rate in the region and there was a need to improve the basic infrastructure, Hooda said.

He also highlighted the need for additional road links for smooth traffic movement between Delhi and Haryana NCR towns. He mentioned Delhi-Gurgaon, Delhi-Sonipat and Badli to IGI Airport links in this context.
