HDFC chief for single-window for affordable homes

For affordable home projects, state governments should look at introducing a single-window clearance system , Deepak Parekh, Chairman, Housing Development Finance Corporation (HDFC), has said. The single greatest benefit of having a single-window clearance is that it will reduce housing prices because the time taken for approval is 18 months. That will come down, Parekh said at an international conference on housing in Delhi on April 11.

He added that there is need for simpler processes and simpler approvals from local municipalities for smaller housing units. A committee on streamlining approval procedures for various projects has recommended this to the Housing Ministry, it is learnt. Parekh also called for tighter regulations to cleanse the housing sector.
