Highway builders demand easier exit norms

Reiterating their demand on exit norms, highway developers and financial institutions met Highway Ministry officials on February 11. At present, there are limits on the extent to which developers can sell their stake from highway concessions, and how fast they can exit from projects after completing projects.

Developers have been demanding that they should have the right to exit entirely immediately after the project is completed. Meanwhile, as disputes rise in the highways sector, the Ministry is taking a re-look at an earlier proposal of setting up a regulator.

In case of a dispute between the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), which is the project implementing agency, and developers, there should be a third body to evaluate the situation, it is felt.
