J&K Minister stresses importance of road connectivity

Jammu and Kashmir Minister for R&B, Abdul Majid Wani has asserted that better road connectivity is pivotal for bringing speedy socio-economic transformation in the state. He described the R&B as a core sector for people that lends support and boosts activities of other departments meant for people’s welfare and state's overall development.

Wrapping up the discussion on the demand of grants for the R&B Department in the Legislative Assembly on March 19, Wani said that Jammu and Kashmir is witnessing good progress in the road sector and several important and significant projects have been completed or are on the verge of completion.

Wani said that besides taking up major road projects, the State government has given special focus to improve and upgrade urban-rural connectivity. Highlighting the physical and financial achievements of the Department, the Minister said that R&B Department Kashmir maintains a road length of 11,594.53 km of which 6262.21 km have been blacktopped and 5332.32 km, mostly in rural areas are in different stages of upgradation through various programmes.

The Minister said 6,262.21 km black topped roads include 76.90 km of National Highway, 29.50 km of State Highway, 875 km of major district roads, 1,767.31 km of other district roads and 3,513 km of the village roads.
