Jammu Kashmir govt seeks fund for monorail project

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah requested Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, at a recent meeting, to allocate funds for the proposed Rs 30,000 crore monorail project in Jammu and Srinagar.

During the meeting, Abdullah conveyed to Singh that the amount was beyond the means of state government and the support by the central government during the 12th Plan period is essentially required to take up these projects.

It is learnt that RITES prepared a comprehensive plan which includes Rapid and Mass Transport (Metro/Mono Rail) services in the state. The monorail project is said to be the first of its kind for any valley region in the country.
