KMRL plans to develop land at Kakkanad

Kochi Metro Rail (KMRL) plans to develop a 17.315 acre land at Kakkanad into a modern multi-utility centre with urban amenities such as markets and civic facilities as well as recreational centre. Recently, the Board of Directors of the body cleared the invitation of expressions of interest (EoIs) for preparing a master plan for this project. KMRL expects to earn supplementary revenues for improving the financial position of the Kochi Metro project from the Kakkanad facility. Meanwhile, at the recent meeting, the board cleared the agreement to be signed between KMRL and DMRC for the execution of the first phase of the project. Soon, the agreement is expected to be formally signed between KMRL and DMRC. The meeting also discussed the various funding options and strategies for implementing the project. The board also discussed the changes to be made to the technical parameters following the adoption of the communication based CBTC System of signalling.
