KMRL to develop road to avoid traffic disruption

Kochi Metro Rail (KMRL) would develop and resurface alternative roads to facilitate movement of vehicles when work on the Kochi Metro begins on June 7. In order to divert traffic from the project site, KMRL, along with traffic police and other stakeholders prepared a tentative plan. The authority plans to implement the metro rail project by causing only minimum inconvenience to the public. It would consider suggestions from members of the public in this regard. KMRL decided to divide the Aluva-Pettah alignment of the metro into numerous sub stretches to streamline traffic flow. KMRL will help the police procure recovery vans to tow away vehicles that obstruct traffic and also equipment for enabling traffic diversion. Before June 7, all the authorities concerned will finalise the traffic diversion plan. Authorities would widen the narrow junction where Rajaji Road meets Chitoor Road, to enable more vehicles use the newly-opened AL Jacob overbridge when vehicles are diverted as part of metro’s works. Recently, the metro’s alignment from the city up to Edappally was inspected by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation's (DMRC) Principal Advisor E Sreedharan. He held discussions with senior officials, including those from BSNL, on speedy relocation of cables and pipelines.
