KRCL lacks fund for Sky Bus Metro project

The dire financial position of Konkan Railway Corporation (KRCL) may not enable the body to continue the implementation of the sky bus metro project unless it gets aid from some sources.

It is learnt that the corporation may need Rs 1,000 crore for taking the project ahead. The corporation has constructed a sky bus test track of 1.6 km at Madgaon on which tests and trials up to speed of 60 kmph conducted.

The financial position of the body can be understood by the accumulated loss of Rs 3,310 crores and bond liability of Rs 1,666 crore.

Also, the project is a technology development oriented project and such projects have their own gestation period and required adequate finance, which is not available with KRCL.

Meanwhile, the state transport Minister Ramkrishna 'Sudin' Dhavlikar said that commercial deployment of sky bus technology can be undertaken only after the optimization of the technology and its safety certification for public usage.

The minister said no time frame can be given for commercial deployment of the project as it is a research oriented one.
