Kochi to soon get integrated traffic management system

The Cochin Smart City Mission (CSML) is making efforts to control the traffic signals in the city from one point, thus enabling smooth flow of vehicles through busy signals. The Kochi Metro Rail has invited tenders from eligible bidders for implementation of integrated traffic management system (ITMS) in the city and command and control traffic movement from a central centre. CCTVs, signal lights and other devices will be brought under this central point. The project is to be implemented with the help of city police.

As reported, the the successful bidder has to implement the integrated traffic management system in 12 months, and will be responsible for five years of operations and maintenance. The project will be implemented at a total Rs 300 million. The tender documents will reportedly be opened on April 9.

The new system will be based on artificial intelligence (AI) and will replace the traditional manual control of traffic movement. Also, it is expected to provide the police personnel an access to the most modern technology for controlling and regulating traffic flow as well as ensuring proper maintenance of various devices.
