MMRDA to spend Rs100 crore for strengthening NH-4 and SH-40

Tenders Invited: Takka Colony to Palaspe Phata on NH-4 to be widened to six lanes 4-lane flyover on SH-40 at L&T Junction; road to be widened to six lanes
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has invited tenders to widen and strengthen the National Highway-4 and State Highway-40 at various key spots such as Sheel Phata, Palaspe Phata, Takka Colony, Kalamboli Junction and Khanda Colony. A 4-lane flyover will also be constructed on SH-40 at L&T Junction under the project.
"We have invited tenders for widening and strengthening of NH-4 in two phases. The first phase is between Takka Colony and Palaspe Phata; while the second phase is between Kalamboli Junction and Khanda Colony. MMRDA will spend Rs.54 crore for the 3.6 km long 6-lane road,” said Dilip Kawathkar, Joint Project Director (PR), MMRDA. The present road is without a divider and creates bottlenecks in various patches.
MMRDA has already constructed a flyover near Panvel ST Depot, which has reduced traffic congestion significantly in this stretch. “The new project which is to be completed in a year’s time will further reduce the traffic snarls and save precious fuel and time for the commuters,” added Kawathkar.
The authority has also invited tenders to construct a 4-lane flyover at L&T Junction on Sheel Phata-Mahape Road on the State Highway 40. “The 450-m lone flyover will provide for 2 lanes each for up and down traffic. This flyover will be hugely beneficial for the industrial belt in the region. MMRDA will also widen and strengthen the 6.9-km lone 6-lane stretch of the Sheel Phata-Mahape Road,” informed Kawathkar. This project will cost approximately Rs.56 crore and is expected to be completed in 18 months.
