Ministry to discuss resumption of Airport Metro service

Union urban ministry would conduct a meeting on November 7 to decide the resumption of service at the Airport Metro line Corridor in Delhi.

The ministry would hold discussion with Reliance Concessionaire who had earlier declared its inability to run the corridor owing to ‘financial non-viability.

During the meeting, the ministry would also discuss the repair works done on the Capital’s first high-speed Corridor and the points of conflict between the Reliance Concessionaire and the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation.

Meanwhile, it is learnt that the repair work on the corridor is on the verge of completion and the ministry would write a formal letter to the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) seeking his time to conduct an audit on the Airport Express.

The first high-speed corridor was shut for repairs due to safety concerns on August 8. It is learnt that the repair work on the line is almost complete and the safety audit will be conducted before it can be thrown open to the public. In a joint meeting on October 31, the Delhi Metro, which is carrying out the repairs on the stretch, had opted for a safety audit of the line, before it is opened for the commuters.

The corridor is expected to start the operations once the trials are over and the safety audit has been carried out, reports suggest.
