Nashik's housing project for poor faces hurdles

To provide homes for slumdwellers, the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has embarked upon an ambitious housing project under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM).

NMC has already constructed some houses. However, the project is facing hurdles as land acquisition is being opposed in some places in the city.

Corporator Dinkar Patil of the Congress had voiced his opposition for the housing scheme opposite Motiwala College, Satpur Division, saying that there were no beneficiaries in this area. Recently, Shiv Sena corporator Vilas Shinde also staged a protest in Gangapur village citing the same reason.
