PM to inaugurate Mughal Road on June 25

In Jammu and Kashmir, the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is scheduled to inaugurate the Mughal Road later this month. However, the work on the historical road project connecting Border Districts of Poonch and Rajouri with Kashmir is not fully complete. The Prime Minister is scheduled to inaugurate the road on June 25.

The road project is still short of two major bridges and also awaits double laning of a long stretch, sources said. The condition of road at many places is not good as massive land and rock slides during last winter have swept away long stretches of the road. Besides some portion of road is yet to be blacktopped, while two vital bridges on the road are still under construction, sources said .

They said that the road has also developed potholes as the heavy snow fall and harsh winters have badly damaged the blacktopping and the bumpy stretches give a tough time to the commuters traveling on the road. Passing through the dilapidated portion along Chatta Pani and Ratta Chamb is really a tough journey.

The people face a lot of hardships while traveling on this stretch, they added further. The double laning of some road portion of Engineer Mughal section, named after Er Younis Mughal, who died at this spot after a shooting stone hit him, is yet to be done and two vehicles can hardly cross each other from this portion.
