Projects worth over Rs 4.45 billion launched in Thanjavur

Foundation stones for 18 major works has been reportedly laid by R Duraikannu, State Agriculture Minister in Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu. 

Under the smart city scheme, projects worth Rs 4.54 billion has been laid in Thanjavur as the Central Government has identified the city for development as a smart city, following proposals sent by the Tamil Nadu Government. Other than improving infrastructure and other facilities in the city, the old town will be reportedly developed into a city, which will provide smart solutions for the need of the people under the scheme. 

Reportedly, project works include improving underground drainage at a cost of Rs 936.8 million, Rajappa park and clock tower in it at a cost of Rs 40 million, Sivaganga park at a cost of Rs 81 million, old bus stand at a cost of Rs 148.8 million, Thiruvaiyaru bus stand (stand from where buses going for Thiruvaiyaru start) at a cost of Rs 1.48 billion, placing solar panels on government buildings at a cost of Rs 22.1 million, improving Kamaraj market at a cost of Rs 174.7 million, Serfoji market at a cost of Rs 145.9 million, among others.

The drinking water facility is expected to be improved at a cost of Rs 1.91 billion in the city, whereas nearly Rs 400 million has been allotted for rehabilitation of people who are displaced.

The works are expected to be completed by 2021.
