Proposals submitted for 90 projects under Sagarmala

Reports indicate that the Andhra Pradesh Government and Visakhapatnam Port Trust (VPT) have submitted proposals for 90 projects with an outlay of Rs 130,763 crore under the Sagarmala project.

The state government has further instructed the 33-member committee, which has just been constituted to take the projects in Andhra Pradesh forward, to come up with port and cluster-wise action plans at the earliest. The Krishnapatnam port is expected to play a pivotal role in the upcoming special employment zone.

The committee will be helping the government in harnessing the tremendous potential for economic development of the 974-km-long coastline by drawing a comprehensive plan of action encompassing the multiple clusters or nodes that straddle the coast and its vast hinterland, according to reports.

VPT will be serving as the nodal agency for the inland waterways project in the state. Apart form the 13 ports, two industrial corridors and five SEZs have been planned to be developed.
