In Cuttack, the ongoing integrated drainage development project and road construction work has doubled the water-logging problems in the city. The drainage project has been funded by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
On September 29 most areas of the city were submerged in knee-deep water as construction waste blocked the roads creating problems in the discharge of rainwater into the storm water channel.
In the city, low-lying areas like Pattapol, Mehendipur, Meria Bazaar, Pithapur, Jhola Sahi, Professor Para, Tulasipur, Thoria Sahi and Ganga Mandir were completely water-logged and water gushed into the houses of people.
