Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reportedly been quoted for stating that the Cochin International Airport (CIAL) model solar project should come up in all sports stadiums in India.
This was after representatives of 40 countries recently visited CIAL’s solar power plant as part of the International Solar Alliance’s (ISA’s) project. As reported from an official press release, the Prime Minister, during his stopover visit, held a discussion with VJ Kurian, Managing Director, CIAL, and hailed its success of being the world’s first airport fully powered by solar energy, an official release said. He also endorsed CIAL’s effort in deploying green energy for operating the airport, which won the United Nations’ Champions of the Earth Award in 2018.
As reported, the release quoted Prime Minister Modi saying that the CIAL model of solarisation should be an inspiring model for all other high-energy consumers. The possibilities of laying solar panels in possible locations should be deciphered. The release reportedly when on to the minister suggesting that the roof of the galleries of stadiums be used for solar as achieving power neutrality for big energy consumers is important for the country.
That said, CIAL has been reportedly instructed to render its expertise
in the massive deployment of solar energy in tune with the ISA, an
organisation of 78 countries.
