Championing green

Spearheaded by Vineet Mittal, Vice Chairman, Welspun Renewables Energy Pvt Ltd (WREPL), the company has received an investment of $24 million for its solar power project in Madhya Pradesh by GE Energy Financial Services, a unit of General Electric. Credit has to be given to Mittal for convincing the US-based company to make their first investment in a solar power project in India. GE Energy Financial Services will fund WREPL's 151 DC MW solar photovoltaic power project at Neemuch in Madhya Pradesh that was put into operation in August 2013, almost eight months ahead of schedule. The project is one of the world's largest solar plants that powers 624,000 homes and mitigates an estimated 216,372 tonne of carbon emission annually. With this investment, the total cumulative investment of GE Energy Financial Services in India will exceed $10 billion. For Mittal, this investment is sure to make his future prospects brighter.
